"The Mexican American Music Association is here to lend a hand"

05/25/2007

The president of M.A.M.A. states ...

The Mexican American Music Association, also known as M.A.M.A., is an organization that has the desire to provide opportunity and exposure for the talented aspiring musicians and vocalists to be heard and/or seen. We want to provide a fair and equitable playing field from which they may expect to reap benefits commensurate with talents. Part of our own purpose is to provide equality in contracts and agreements, which will provide the opportunity for these new comers to devote their time and energy doing that, which will fulfill their ambitions and dreams.

Too often, these young people are given lesser contracts, which do not give them the exposure and promotion necessary to escalate their music to the general listening public. It is our goal to assist in cutting through, prevailing prejudices and biases that exist in the music industry. Talent is not limited to specific races, genders, ages or personality types. Talent does need to be recognized and appreciated as well as valued. We need to lift it up, not put it down.

We at M.A.M.A. firmly believe that our intentions to serve rather then exploit is and idea whose time has come. Doing what we know is right will, as matter of principle; work out to everyone’s advantage. We do not envision having an organization made up only of Mexican Americans (in spite of the name), but welcome all races, creeds, and philosophies. Joining together in this fashion, we create the ...

 “Universal Family”

Now let us stop and look at the Tejano music industry for a minute. It is amazing that through all the years Texan music has lost many of the airwaves through radio and television, but is still hanging by a fine thread. Tejano musicians are still trying to make it in the Tejano industry. That is the reason as Mexican Americans we need to start uniting more and coming together more. We need to stand behind the things we believe in and thank the musicians for all their hard work and talent, like the Mexican people and the American people do.

We need to put our egos aside and quite being so prideful that we cannot think about the needs and wants of others, having too much false pride causes us to loose the understanding of others around us. This organization has an open mind and open heart towards all humanity. We are not in this for ourselves alone, but here for all involved. We all have talents and successes. In this organization, we wish to share all of them, and not try to be the only ones who have them. This does not or will not take our talents and successes away from us; rather it allows us to share the fame and success with others. United not divided because of false pride.

In year 2006 and beyond, I would like to see Americans getting involved trying to help the Mexican Americans in events in music and television. We have kids in trouble and we have kids that need a lot of help. We need help from many different organizations to create a company that is bigger and more powerful, so that we will have it in every city so that they can do things in the right and proper way so we all can help. Basically, we have different nationalities in this country and we have a culture of our own here called Mexican American. I think if everyone were to pull together, then it would get better for all of us. That is why it is called United We Stand, we want to recognize one another, and try to help one another create a better life.

The Mexican American Music Association is here to lend a hand.

We have a lot of opportunities in the United States and we are hard working people. What we at Mexican American Music Association want to explain to everyone, that we are about the Tejano industry. When Selena performed in February 1995 at the Houston Astrodome, she made all Mexican Americans proud of their culture in the Tejano industry with Tejano music. Finally we were breaking the barriers and could cross over into the American industry. That would then give every Mexican American that desires a chance and a new beginning in the music industry. She also opened the doors for Mexican Americans back in 1995. We had the biggest disappointment in the history of Tejano music, by losing one of the biggest idols and pioneers of Tejano music. She lost her life back in 1995. As Tejano music took a big fall in the industry, Mexico saw it as an opportunity since the music was wide open in the United States. They introduced their own Mexican music, and their own stars into the United States, which is now one of the largest industries in music and television. They have conquered every goal you can think of with excellence. They have done a good job. We respect them for creating something from their own culture both in Mexico and the United States.

We can only respect them for seeing a need and filling it. We at M.A.M.A. can only hope to learn from it. We are born and raised in the United States as Mexican Americans; we have culture of our own in many ways. We have many young people in schools and colleges that have learned new ways and a new sound of their own. They have dreams of one day becoming a big star like Selena, and to cross over into the American industry. Since we lost all the Tejano radio stations, thereby losing our voices and opinions in the United States, its time to regroup and raise enough money to hire all the right people to help us promote our music, and protect our young people from being exploited, thus causing hopelessness and disappointment in our music industry.

We at M.A.M.A. have as our goal to introduce ourselves into the American and Mexican industry and ultimately throughout the country we need to unite to raise the funds that are needed to do this. With everyone’s help we can raise the money we need to help our people achieve this. Let me introduce myself to you. My name is Pete Salmeron, and I have put together and association to help the Tejano industry cross over into the American industry. My mother helped me arrive at the name. It was she who came up with the name Mexican American Music Association or M.A.M.A. for short. What is more than a mother’s protection for her children? This association will provide what the artist needs: promoters, managers, and record labels. We will also provide three-day seminars that will educate the artists in the music industry.

The Mexican American Music Association would like to acknowledge the men and women that serve and have served the armed forces, police departments, fire departments, the medical professions, and the multi-levels of education. We would like to thank the Mexican Americans that represent us in this country as Mexican Americans and make us proud. We would be honored to have them become a part of out industry. There will be no predicting just how far we can go as our dream becomes a reality and we open doors for our own young people to reach for the stars.

In behalf of Mexican American Music Association remember: “United We Stand”
